I have previously worked for the Alzheimer’s Society and ran a local Dementia Action Alliance within the community. My role is to support and guide individuals and families from the moment they enquire, helping them navigate what can be one of the most difficult decisions, choosing the right care for themselves or a loved one. The wards operate using multidisciplinary teams including staff from nursing, medicine, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, dietetics, psychology, social work and pharmacy. Many of our families have jobs that directly link to the content in our Communication themes therefore this learning is significant for the children and their aspirations for future employment. Our school community is very interested in world news and current affairs; this has a positive impact on our children’s interest and awareness in events linked to war and dispute. Therefore we believe passionately that our Conflict themes enable children to learn about the origins of conflicts, why they happen, their impact and how to avoid them.

The weekly fee range for Woodlands View starts from £1530, subject to an individuals care needs and the type of room and services chosen. All three wards have 20 single en-suite rooms and provide care for both male and female patients who are aged between 18 and 65. With two sets of patio doors and numerous windows incorporated into one side of the room, the extremely spacious lounge, kitchen, and dining area has been created to be bright, airy, and comforting.

The apartment is used to assess a person’s skills and abilities with regards to daily living tasks so that hopefully, they can move on to a more independent living setting.

Mental health wards that moved to Woodland View included the majority of adult inpatient wards at Ailsa and the two Mental Health wards that were previously at University Hospital in Kilmarnock. Woodland View is a 206-bedroom integrated mental health facility and community hospital which brings together a full range of outpatient and inpatient facilities. I changed my career in 2011 following my father-in-law’s diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia, an experience that inspired me to work within the care sector. Since then, I have dedicated my career to supporting others, with a particular passion for dementia care.
